Portia Archer joined the NBA in February 2020 as chief operating officer of the NBA G League, the official professional development league of the NBA, becoming the first woman and African American to serve in this role. Archer has played a vital role in the commercial growth and expansion of the League responsible for overseeing content and media distribution; fan growth and engagement; and global partnerships and strategic initiatives, including the launch of an expansion team in Mexico City and NBA G League Ignite, a team dedicated to developing the next generation of young, talented prospects from around the world for the NBA.

Prior to joining the NBA, Archer served as senior vice president, direct-to-consumer at NBC Sports Group. In her role, she was responsible for the launch; subscriber and sports rights acquisition; and product management and operations of NBC Sports Gold – NBC’s first direct-to-consumer live streaming product and predecessor to Peacock TV. NBC Sports Gold included a portfolio of Premier League, PGA Tour, Tour de France, and a vast array of Olympic sports.

Archer has also held leadership roles at British Broadcasting Corporation in London, Home Box Office (HBO), and Booz Allen Hamilton. In addition to her professional roles as an executive in Media & Entertainment, Sports and Digital, Archer is a passionate ally and champion for the advancement of women and girls. She serves as an executive board trustee of the Women’s Sports Foundation, founded by Billie Jean King, and also founded NBC Sports Group’s first mentorship program, “Huddle Up,” dedicated to fostering connections, growth opportunities, and increasing inclusion across the organization.

Archer has been recognized by Adweek as among the Most Powerful Women in Sports and a Sports Business Journal “Game Changer”.

She earned an B.A. in public policy and economics at the University of Chicago and an M.B.A. at Columbia Business School.
