In 2023, Darryl Jefferson was named SVP of engineering & technology for sports & Olympics. In his new role, he oversees all technical aspects of NBC Sports’ Olympic efforts remotely and in Stamford. In addition, he continues to lead the Broadcast Operations division responsible for commercial control and On-air Operations.
Previously, Jefferson served as VP of broadcast operations & technology and as VP of post-production operations. In these roles, he oversaw signal acquisition, commercial release, and oversight of the Operations Center in Stamford. In addition, he took the Highlights Factory/Asset Management System from conception through implementation at every Olympic Games from Beijing in 2008 through Tokyo in 202(1). Beyond the Olympics, Jefferson’s daily portfolio of production includes Sunday & Thursday Night Football, Triple Crown events (10 years of Kentucky Derby, Preakness & Belmont Stakes), NASCAR, NHL, Premiere League, and the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He was also involved in the construction and systems integration process for NBC Sports Group’s state-of-the-art production facility in Stamford, CT. Prior to that, he formerly oversaw technical operations at the NBC Olympics Landmark Plaza facility.
Prior to joining NBC Sports Group, Jefferson was director of production at Lifetime Networks. He oversaw Post Production scheduling, duplication, media management, and digital media coordination. Jefferson was a key member of the Operations/IT task force responsible for the transition to a tapeless environment and was a primary architect of the tapeless digital workflow.
Jefferson is a multi-talented Emmy Award Winner for New Approaches in Broadcasting, Short Form 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014; New Approaches in Event Coverage 2010, 2014; Technical Emmy Award (Set Top Box Delivery), Tech Team, Studio 2010, 2012, 2014, 2021; Tech Team Remote/Event 2014, 2016, 2022; Outstanding Live Special, 2022; Outstanding Interactive Experience, Event Coverage, 2021 & 2022; Transmedia 2016; and was a 2012 & 2014 George Wensel Technical Achievement Award Recipient. Most recently, he was a part of the team awarded the 2024 Technical Emmy Award for implementing HDR and Single-Stream Live Production.
Jefferson is co-lead of NBC Sports’ Black Employee Network and father to two regularly awesome kids.
