Senior Director, Broadcast Planning and Strategy

Barney Carleton serves as senior director, broadcast planning and strategy for the NBA. In this role, Carleton is responsible for working with teams, broadcast partners, vendors, and venues to innovate the live game viewing experience across linear and digital platforms by implementing emerging broadcast technologies. Carleton supports various key technology efforts, including the use of cloud production and leveraging innovative cameras and microphones to enhance game broadcasts.

Since he joined the NBA in 2015, Carleton and his team have helped integrate wearable cameras on participants at NBA All Star 2023 in Indianapolis, oversaw the deployment of the Canon Free Viewpoint volumetric video system at Barclays Center and Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in advance of the 2021-22 season, and created the Michelob Ultra Courtside virtual fan experience for the NBA Bubble in 2020.

He’s also the adjunct professor for an Introduction to Sports Broadcasting class at Long Island University.

Carleton holds a bachelor’s degree in sport management and MBA from St. John’s University.
